Jobs service has new location

OhioMeansJobs moves into new office on Medina Square

MEDINA – OhioMeansJobs Medina County has moved offices to a new site, located at 72 Public Square, in Medina.

The new location is located in the former Medina County Prosecutor’s Office and just across the street from its former location at 60 Public Square where the agency had been housed for the past two years.

The office is Medina County's branch of the national American Job Center network and provides career development services to youth, adults and dislocated workers. It also offers recruiting and services to area businesses.

OhioMeansJobs Medina County provides a full range of free assistance to job seekers under one roof. Prescribed by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, the center offers training referrals, career counseling, job listings, and similar employment-related services.

Christine Marshall, executive director of the Summit & Medina Workforce Area Council of Governments, said the move to a new, larger office should make services more accessible to visitors. Free parking is available in the parking lot and parking garage adjacent to the building entrance, located in the rear of the building, next door to the Medina County Courthouse.

According to Marshall, county officials orchestrated the move in order to consolidate the prosecutor’s staff in the Courthouse Commons building the jobs agency vacated.

“It’s been fortunate for us because we are now on the first floor which makes it easier for our clients with disabilities to get to and we have more parking available in the parking garage behind the Courthouse,” Marshall said.

Marshall reports that about 275 clients took the orientation programs offered by the agency in the last nine months. Orientation programs are designed to inform new clients about the full range of services offered by OhioMeansJobs Medina County.

The office is staffed by 11 people who represent four different agencies such as Job and Family Services, Jobs for Ohio Grads and Vantage Aging.

Marshall said the staff at the center is ready to assist Medina County residents in all aspects of the job search and determine educational and training needs. Workshops on various job search subjects are provided.

Job seekers are invited to visit the office and check the online job matching website which is a gateway to local, regional and state employment. This is a free state service to employers and job seekers. Staffers at the “one-stop center” can provide assistance to both the job seeker and employer in the exploration and use of this service.

Job seekers visiting the center can also meet one-on-one with an experienced career counselor who can guide them through the unemployment process including career assessment, interview preparation and career coaching.

The new office also offers job seekers free use of Internet-connected computers for job searching, job application completion, and resume submission. Visitors can also use a resource room to make copies and send faxes.

The center has created a job matching system that puts the resumes of job seekers into a database which employers can review to identify potential employees.

In addition, the center offers workshops and classes on such things as resume writing, interviewing and job searching strategy.

A business services team at the center also works with employers by posting job openings, matching candidates, and assisting in the hiring process.
